Burn was a cross-breeding of Dante's Inferno with a real-life episode from Appalachian history. In 1961, an underground coal-mine fire spread to the surface; over the next twenty years, it devoured a sleepy Pennsylvania mining town piece by piece.
Designing video for the show demanded a great deal of flexibility. We might spend one day in the studio, quietly animating at a computer. That night might find us demolishing a giant wooden structure on the backlot or heading out with a full crew to shoot fifty people drowning in the river. For an encore, we'd deposit a carload of lingerie-clad dancers on the highway (that one attracted the police)....
