Working with video artist Rocio Martinez and production designer Greg Deroy, we created forty minutes of material for this dance performance about the reflections of a man at the point of death.
In keeping with the stripped-down, heavily symbolic look of the production, the video design used very simple colors and forms to set the jumbled scenes from the protagonist's life: a classroom, an office, a mountain, a mother's womb.
It's fascinating to see what happens when 3D computer animation "breaks." The geometric patterns for this show were created by deliberately confusing a 3D program, sticking objects where they weren't supposed to be and recording the results. It generated all kinds of beautiful random shapes as it tried to figure out the mess.
